Christmas Past

I was sitting here thinking about my mother. God, she loved Christmas. Tears started to fill my eyes. I was about to get sad, then I remembered something that made me laugh so hard.

I remembered the day my mother bought this artificial tree. I was about 10. She was complaining about the price. She said, "Damn this tree is high [expensive]... this gone last." I heard her but I was so excited about the tree that I didn't pay her any attention. I just kept on decorating the tree. Putting lights and ornaments on it. Then, she said, "And these damn lights and ornaments were high too." I just kept on smiling.

So after Christmas had passed, I saw her put the entire artificial tree back in the box that it came in, with the lights and decorations and all still attached to the tree. She just threw it in the box and the next year, you guessed it, she just pulled it out and plugged it in and said, "Don't it still look good?" I didn't have the heart to tell her that the Christmas tree looked like a Christmas shrub. LOL. Most of the lights had burned out, but she didn't care. All she remembered was the $17.95 that she paid for it. I was so glad when I made some money to buy her another tree... You think Charlie Brown had a horrible looking tree? I wish I had a picture of that branch she called a tree.

Merry Christmas y'all. If your mother is alive, savor every precious moment.

I loved the story about your mother and christmas tree. Reading your story brought up old christmas memory I hope you don't mind me sharing. I remember my mother pulling out the same tree year after year and the same oniments. To me that tree was the most beautiful tree. Last year my mother told me she hated that tree it was old heavy and took hours to put together. I asked why she didn't get new one. Her response was seeing me stare at the tree was worth all the trouble and pain year after year. She told me I was the only reason she would not cave to my older siblings and throw it out. I asked her whatever did happen to that tree. I was on the floor laughing when she said, "when you moved out I threw it out"! Merry christmas to you and your family

My tree looked like that after I pulled it out this year...lol But, what we both know is that what makes Christmas special is having Love and there is no Love like Mothers Love. I miss my Mom too, but I have dedicated evey Christmas since she has passed to helping other kids have memories of Love like we did. God Bless you.

Hello Tyler, God works in many ways I say that because I was at home crying because I miss my mom. She was my best friend and the only person I could truly trust and then my phone let me know I had a tweet and it was you thank God because I'm all by myself and that's not fun but there is nothing to do in this city because people don't know how to acked. I have been through so much so When I got your tweet it made me smile thank you so much and I'm so sorry for your loss you are the best I wish we could be friends because I know you are a good man that loves God and you have been through a lot to I would invite you over for tea or coffee or what ever you would like to drink but I know you don't have the time so God bless you my friend and thank you from the bottom of my heart.
