Christmas Past

I was sitting here thinking about my mother. God, she loved Christmas. Tears started to fill my eyes. I was about to get sad, then I remembered something that made me laugh so hard.

I remembered the day my mother bought this artificial tree. I was about 10. She was complaining about the price. She said, "Damn this tree is high [expensive]... this gone last." I heard her but I was so excited about the tree that I didn't pay her any attention. I just kept on decorating the tree. Putting lights and ornaments on it. Then, she said, "And these damn lights and ornaments were high too." I just kept on smiling.

So after Christmas had passed, I saw her put the entire artificial tree back in the box that it came in, with the lights and decorations and all still attached to the tree. She just threw it in the box and the next year, you guessed it, she just pulled it out and plugged it in and said, "Don't it still look good?" I didn't have the heart to tell her that the Christmas tree looked like a Christmas shrub. LOL. Most of the lights had burned out, but she didn't care. All she remembered was the $17.95 that she paid for it. I was so glad when I made some money to buy her another tree... You think Charlie Brown had a horrible looking tree? I wish I had a picture of that branch she called a tree.

Merry Christmas y'all. If your mother is alive, savor every precious moment.

Loved your Christmas story! My Mama is also in heaven. I remember she had a live pine tree for Christmas that my stepfather bought for her. He died before Christmas and my Mama let the tree stay decorated. Weeks went by, months went by and the tree was still decorated in our living room. She kept it watered and the needles didn't fall off. She didn't want it to be taken down. At first I was sympathetic, then I became embarrassed, then it was just downright hilarious! The gas man came to read the meter (in our kitchen). He looked puzzled but didn't say anything. UPS delivered a heavy package that he brought into my living room. I think he chuckled at the tree. Everybody and their mama came through my house and saw the Christmas tree still up in June. One day I came home from work and didn't even notice the tree was gone. But then I saw there was a trail of over a million pine needles through the house to the back door and outside to the garbage can. So the next couple of weeks pine needles were found under the furniture, in the corners of rooms, everywhere! Thanks for bringing back that memory.

Great Greetings, Take this time to rest in the peace of Jesus. I pray this Christmas amd New Year's you are filledwith the love of Jesus, and marveling in the beautiful memories of your mother during this holiday season. It's okay to cry, it cleanse the Spirit. God knows your heart aching pains and He's listening to your prayers; don't stop, keep moving, you're a reach away from your blessing. I'm there in Spirit with you, holding and comforting you, as we laugh together about the silly things your mother has said and done. Donny Hathaway-This Christmas is one of my favorite. I know your mother love this song, too. Play it and have fun! Love Cass

I'm really taking that last part of the message to heart. God blessed my mother to come through breast cancer 2 years ago and now it has returned to more areas throughout her body. We just returned from our Christmas vacation before she starts her drastic radiation treatment starting next month because we know she won't have the strength to do any other traveling later on. I do have the faith that she will pull through this with no problems as God had blessed her with before, not to mention the 2 strokes she also endured. My mother has been through a lot in her short life (will be 60 on Dec. 29) and I want her to be here a lot longer. Thank you for all your encouraging words and I hope God continues to bless you as well. God Bless!!!
