Don't Let Anybody Define You!

I live my life outside of the box because when I die they're going to put me into one!

Many times in this life, people will try to tell you what you can and cannot do. They will also try to tell you who you are and who you are not. DON’T LET ANYBODY DEFINE YOU! When I was a kid, I had a teacher tell me that I would never be a millionaire because I was black and the system was set up to keep me down. This was a TEACHER! Can you believe that? I’m so glad that my little boy mind didn’t accept that. I have often been told that I wouldn’t make it because I was poor or because of the color of my skin. I had family members tell me I would never make it and my dreams would never come true for one reason or another... boy were they wrong. If I had listened to any of those voices I wouldn’t be here writing this to you. Hear me when I say this to you: no matter what anyone says to you, LIVE YOUR LIFE!! Follow that still small voice inside of you. That is GOD’s Holy Spirit and I think we all have the capacity to hear that voice. We just need to still ourselves to hear it. You must silence all the outside voices in order to hear THE voice. I try to stay as clear as I can so that I can hear it. It’s not always easy, but necessary.

This is your life. Make decisions based on your own path. Let no one define it for you!

If you live the life everyone else wants you to live and you never live the life you want to live, then are you really living??

Life is so short... Live it to the fullest!!

Tell me what your life’s dreams are. Talk to me on the message board at tylerperry.com/talk

My life's goal is for my children and my husband to continue to see good health and longevity. For myself my life's goal is to know what my lifes purpose is and to actively work to pursue that purpose. Tyler, I have followed you for a long time and i am so inspired by your accomplishments. I have remained hopeful in my own life that i will one day recognize what my talents are and use them to fulfill my purpose. I look at my life and i do recognize how, with Gods help, I have been able to survive and provide, but I have yet to feel as though I am truly living and accomplishing on a personal level. I just turned 40 and I look at my life; which is a good one, and I am constantly feeling a burning desire to do and be more in this life. I don't want to sound unappreciative but my soul is not at rest with what i am currently doing; i just don't know what it is that i am suppose to be doing at this stage in my life. I am a mother with two beautiful children, a wonderful husband, and a good job. Most people would wonder what else could I ask for. My answer would be to feel, as a woman, that I have accomplished my purpose in life. My family is my joy and I thank God for them, but I cannot ignore the burn that I feel to do and be more. Tyler, if you have any advice for me please contact me.

My goal is to put out awareness about childhood cancer, my 3 year old daughter has cancer and she's my only child. Its scary as a single mom. I am active duty military and I'm getting out by the end of this year. My dream is to open up a daycare center with cheap affordable prices. I know I can do it...I'm 15 credits away from a bachelors degree. I love your messages Tyler, I'm honored to be a die hard small entity in you huge fan database. I stayed up all last night reading your messages from your very first post. Well gotta go mommy duty calls.

When I received the message, my first thought was, ok, Tyler is sending us more encouragement to keep us moving in the right direction. But, when I had a chance to actually read the message and got to the end, I cried. I can’t remember anyone every asking me that, anyone being interested in me enough to want to know. Everyday life is so hectic and so fast paced that we lose track and our dreams. They get pushed to the side and as a parent just trying to make it to tomorrow my dreams are forgotten and our children’s dreams become our dreams. After you have children your focus becomes more about them and not about you. My life’s dream’s for me is for God’s continued grace and blessings, for good health and peace for all. My dream is to continue to be able to provide for my child and mother. I would love to open my own business. To live and not just exist; to be able to travel and walk on beaches with black sand. My dream is to know LOVE, meet my soul mate. Last, I dream for all my daughter's dreams to come true. As Oprah has said many times, “God can dream a bigger dream for you, than you can ever dream for yourself.” I can’t wait to see what He has in store for me. Thank you so much Mr. Perry for asking and listening. Talk to you soon… K

To write books, articles, plays, to act and sing...have not used those gifts since college....they are God given and hardwired into my being by the divine creator....you are inspiring me to step out and work on these dreams while working, instead of giving up and listening to the enemy saying, you can't ever do that NOW......thank you Tyler...what an exciting time in America and the world as the economy changed for all people to look inside and say, who am I really in terms of what would I do if there was no fear.....the stable jobs, as we saw them, have not proved to be stable after all, so now there is a new unleashed potential to say, why not try, what do we have to lose to try to be what we feel inside are our true gifts, passions, borne out in a path forged by that still small voice....the one wishing fear was not pushing it back down....as others say...Hello Fear.....I am going to start facing the fear and trying without fear of failure....God Bless you Tyler Perry!!!!!!!

My dream is to work with you. Some people kept asking me "are you crazzy, you are a smart PhD, lecturer, ... can't you do something better with your experience?" and i answer, it is not about the experience ... it is about the person. I feel very connected to you and I believe that even a day before my death, I will at least shake your hand to prove people wrong. Actually, it is a challenge to overcome. I am not in hurry but will make it and better.

Hi I agree about what you posted. I tell my daughter this all the time. She is a very shy young lady. People try to take your quiet as you are weak and that they can run over you. I always tell her to seek God like never before and always let God direct her path. She 's in college and when she tell people what her major is they seem to fine all kinds of ways to discourage her. She tried to opt out of her major when she went to talk to her advisor she could not get out. I told her to hold on to her dreams and don't let no one tell her what she can and can not do. If God be for you who can be against you. Walk in the Spirit of God. Don't let nothing separate you from the love of JESUS. Be Blessed and Be a Blessing. I thank God for you sharing.

People always seem to equate being quiet as weak in our society. I think quiet people are very strong. Tell your daughter to stay focused on her goal and accept herself the way God has made her. I had the same type of personality and did very well in college. Just keep praying and seeking God.

Mr. Perry u are sooooo right. I USE to be like that......living my life how others wanted me to or how others expected me to, but not any more. I want to be a graphic designer. I received my BS 7 years ago, but i currently work as a teller (never thought that i would be doing this for this amount of time). But im grateful i have a job and good benefits. I still have not given up on my dream to be a graphic designer. I believe God helps those who help themselves, so im taking some refresher courses at the local community college......I know God will make a way
