Due To Circumstances That I Can't Control...

Unfortunately, due to circumstances that I can't control, we've had to cancel this leg of the Madea Gets A Job tour.

Here's why. I set a ticket price for the show starting at $25. The reason I set the price so low is so that everyone could get a chance to come out and see the show. I know how tight things are right now. I GET IT! I do not tour to make a living, I tour because I love staying connected to all of you. I love seeing your faces, hearing you laugh and seeing you enjoy yourselves. It gives me great joy. Even though it's a lot of work, I really don't mind doing it. Because of that, what I do is make sure that the promoter sets a reasonable ticket price and the prices are $25, $45 and $65. Even though I set these prices so that they are affordable, fees are added that are out of my control and the price of the tickets can almost double. Add to that, when you go online looking for tickets, IN LOTS OF CASES, you are being led to a bootlegger and you don't even know it. There are a lot of ticket bootleggers and scalpers that buy lots of shows and sell them to the public for double, sometimes triple the price. I've been dealing with this for years but now with the internet I've never seen it this bad.

Also, there are some horrible people who are pretending to be me or representing me on Facebook and charging people money to do a meet and greet on the tour. They are telling people that they are me or working for me and charging them $150 for a meet and greet after the play.  DON'T FALL FOR THIS!! That's not me.

This is so frustrating! Why are people so evil? Why can't people just get legitimate jobs and stop trying to do the wrong thing all the time? If they put the same amount of energy into doing the right thing as they do in doing the wrong thing they could make it. It's so sad.

To all of you who have bought tickets and made plans to be there I am so sorry. I really am but my hands are tied.

This was the last live Madea tour and I'm super sorry that you won't get to see it live. All refunds should be given back to you.

I just looke on the comments to make sure I understood correctly about the cancellation of the Madea Gets a Job tour to find a mini Facebook. I guess there are ignorant people everywhere, but if you dont have words of encouragement or no understanding of business maybe you should not even be on this website. Seems people with so much to say have all the time in the world to brow beat and point fingers! I say to you....May God have mercy on your souls and I pray you get it together soon. And TP, dont sweat the small stuff! There is so much more in store for you :). This is only a storm to weather....hold out your hand and catch the poncho and know you are "covered" in Jesus name. Much love to you.....

I am completely devastated!! This was on my bucket list!!!!! I have talked about this for months. I don't blame you Tyler. It just makes me lose more faith in humanity.

Wow..that is just sad that people would take advantage of your name like that. I had actually thought about getting tickets and taking my son and daughter. We love all of the Madea movies as well as your other work. Sorry that so many of Madea's fans won't get to see the tour, but as fans we understand.

Yes, everybody it is sad when the bad people manage to ruin our fun but it would be a lot worse if the message Tyler brings within his plays is trashed. There are people sawing those plays and DVDs that never attend church or here anything about God. Yes it is dissapointing , my daughter and my friend bought some of the first tickets sold in L.R. so we could be up close but you know what if we give even this to Him, He will cause food to come out of it.i

I am so sad to hear this as I was so anxiously awaiting to see my first live play; however I totally understand Mr. Perry. Thank you for standing up for walking upright what a living example! May God continue to pour out his blessings upon you! God bless!!

This is the BEST reason for canceling. I applaud your decision. You thought about the people and what it would cost them, instead of how much you could make. Excellent example!

    • TruthTeller Kittrell, NC #1744489

Sabrina, that makes no sense. If you're illiterate enough to buy tickets from a scalper then you should pay double/triple. They have Ticketmaster to purchase the tickets, so why buy from some low life standing in the parking lot? If the tickets are sold out at Ticketmaster, then the show is sold out. You have to be a complete idiot to purchase from a scalper.

I don't think it is necessary to result to name calling. When ordering tickets via Ticketmaster, the consumer is charged outrageous fees in addition to the ticket prices. Maybe I misunderstood his message, but I interpreted it to mean that sometimes when people go online to buy tickets, they are routed to websites that are not legit selling the tickets at higher prices and not realizing that they have been routed to another seller. Me personally, I always purchase my tickets directly from the venue. That way I avoid all fees

So for those of us who work hard for what we have and paid our honest money through Ticketmaster, we are just supposed to say oh well, the tour is cancelled. I will watch it on DVD. Well I will not ! If sports venues cancelled games because people scalped tickets, then we'd never go to a football, basketball, or tennis game. Where does it end? Mr. Perry you've just lost a fan.

    • TruthTeller Kittrell, NC #1744491

I'm with you...Looks as if it's all about the benjamins. So the people who are collecting the tickets at the door can't recognize a counterfeit?

    • Upset in Alabama Alabama #1744500

Check and checkmate! It's all about the almighty dollar. A $25 ticket? My legitimate ticket from Ticketmaster was way more than that. And yes, if people buy from scalpers and "pay" to see Tyler in person, then oh well, you deserve to get scammed. It's 2012, wake up! They've made it hard on those of us who are doing thw right thing.

Cancelling the show is not the answer. So the message you're sending to all of your fans, is you're all about the money? Are you actually doing this for all the fans who looked up to you when you were a nobody? Or, are you doing this for the money as every other actor? It's simple, why sale tickets online or from a box office when you can sale the tickets upon entrance? This will eliminate the bootlegging and scalping. I've followed you from day one, and I've praised you for the remarkable story you portrayed. From being homeless to becoming a multi-millionaire is a huge step for anyone, and it takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Will there come a day where Tyler Perry offers free entrance into a stage play? Relaying a positive message should be free, you shouldn't have to pay for that....

Calm down. Unforeseen occurences befall us all. (Ecclesiastes 9:11b) Mr. Perry has his reasons for cancelling the shows. You'll get a chance to attend one one day!! (smile) Take care.

    • TruthTeller Kittrell, NC #1744494

I am smiliing, and I am calm, don't judge whom you don't know. I haven't planned on attending his shows, and don't plan on it. May just be me, but looks like it's more a money issue, than the protection of his fans wallet. So you take care, and keep following the flock.

So sorry to hear this . I was so excited to be coming and seeing this but, I certaintly understand your reason for canceling it. God Bless You !

  • Jennifer Matthews roswell, nm

Tyler, That which has not defeated us, makes us stronger. You have a message, you have been given a special gift to reach people. The Lord has blessed you. Please remember that you will always go up against the puppets of the ruler of darkness, but you have the tools in which to claim victory, not defeat. Use the mind of Christ, and instead of giving in to defeat and canceling the tour, consider that in which you have been given, and use it for HIS purpose. Your shows are not only for the fans, but for the one whom set the road you are currently traveling. May you continue in your blessings, and know that the Lord is smiling upon you. I love your work.

  • Catherine Brown Memphis, TN

That is so sad to hear but I do understand your reason for doing it. I've never got a chance to see any of your plays live but people are a trip. Love you and always will. Stay up and I pray that God continues to bless you!

  • Antoinette McDonough Savannah, GA

This hurts my heart. I am truly disappointed that I will not have a chance to see Madea live. At this point, I have tried to attend R. Kelly, Keith Sweat, New Edition and ALL have cancelled a week before the show. I thank you for telling us why (got no explanation from the other cancellations) but this is still very disappointing. I thought for SURE you would not cancel on us. Best of luck to you, I will continue to support all of your work. Stay blessed Mr. Perry.

  • Angel Jefferson Columbia, SC

Tyler, Please don't do this. I was so looking forward to seeing the play. I even bought a ticket for my 6 year old. He loves Madea. And we had really close seats. Now my birthday is ruined. I am crying. Please reconsider.

    • M. USA #1744483

Calm down now. Don't fret. You'll get to see a 'MADEA' play one day. Bye

    • Kik Virginia #1744689

Don't know if you are a fan of Tyler's or not, but if you were then you would know that he has stated this is the LAST time that he is taking Madea on tour ! !
