Due To Circumstances That I Can't Control...

Unfortunately, due to circumstances that I can't control, we've had to cancel this leg of the Madea Gets A Job tour.

Here's why. I set a ticket price for the show starting at $25. The reason I set the price so low is so that everyone could get a chance to come out and see the show. I know how tight things are right now. I GET IT! I do not tour to make a living, I tour because I love staying connected to all of you. I love seeing your faces, hearing you laugh and seeing you enjoy yourselves. It gives me great joy. Even though it's a lot of work, I really don't mind doing it. Because of that, what I do is make sure that the promoter sets a reasonable ticket price and the prices are $25, $45 and $65. Even though I set these prices so that they are affordable, fees are added that are out of my control and the price of the tickets can almost double. Add to that, when you go online looking for tickets, IN LOTS OF CASES, you are being led to a bootlegger and you don't even know it. There are a lot of ticket bootleggers and scalpers that buy lots of shows and sell them to the public for double, sometimes triple the price. I've been dealing with this for years but now with the internet I've never seen it this bad.

Also, there are some horrible people who are pretending to be me or representing me on Facebook and charging people money to do a meet and greet on the tour. They are telling people that they are me or working for me and charging them $150 for a meet and greet after the play.  DON'T FALL FOR THIS!! That's not me.

This is so frustrating! Why are people so evil? Why can't people just get legitimate jobs and stop trying to do the wrong thing all the time? If they put the same amount of energy into doing the right thing as they do in doing the wrong thing they could make it. It's so sad.

To all of you who have bought tickets and made plans to be there I am so sorry. I really am but my hands are tied.

This was the last live Madea tour and I'm super sorry that you won't get to see it live. All refunds should be given back to you.

Hi Mr. Perry, I do understand your frustrations but why can't you just sell the tickets straight from your website? Or have your website redirect people to the correct/legitimate links/places that they are supposed to be in order to purchase the right tickets? It seems like there has got to be some sort of work-around. <scratching my head> I've never seen/known you to back down from/about anything before (???) As a matter of fact, the many testimonies of your determination is what has been fueling me over the past 6-yrs. And with regards to staffing such a request/suggestion, there are people like me who have been unemployed for over a year (and still seriously/genuinely want to be a part of your team and contribute to helping it grow) who would love to head a project like this. For the things that we don't know how to do but are willing and determined to learn them, it's like that mid-point in the center of a cross where paths meet/intersect just perfectly. Destiny. In all honesty, I am a bit overwhelmed by the fact that you have chosen to cancel the remainder of the tour (although I was disappointed I wouldn't get a chance to see you anyway), it saddens me to know that you would allow others to take away your love and joy so easily (but humanly, I know that it is possible) and the joy that others get from you. Would you please reconsider and remember the fans? ~ With the Warmest and Kindest Regards ever <3

Check out this crazy e-mail I got not too long ago... "Hey De, IF YOU QUIT OR GIVE UP THEN YOU DON'T DESERVE IT!! Process that and get back in the fight, DREAMER! You can do it. Your coach, Tyler" Hmmm...that day it REALLY MEANT something to me.------- Don't make me have to dig through ALL of my old e-mails (and half of yours from the message board too!) >-p (angry face with tongue sticking out)

my mom got me tickets to see the play for my birthday it is the only thing i ask for, for my birthday because i am a big fan of yours when i heard you were coming to oakland. she got tickets for her, my son and me. Then she told me it was cancelled i was very disappointed i read it had something to do with people scalping tickets. Because of a bunck of dishonest people everybody doesn't get to see to see the show.

My husband and I purchased airfare tickets from Hawaii to LA & then drive to vegas to watch your show. We're huge fans of yours & consider this a dream come true (literally) to watch Madea Live! We received our tickets in the mail last week and have been on countdown to your show in Oct. it saddens us to hear the news about the cancellation of the tour. Praying that everything will turn out for the better Tyler. God Bless!

Wow! I am so sad over this decision. I purchased 4 tickets for my family. My teenage kids were so looking forward to seeing Madea live for the first time! This was a birthday gift to my son!!!! I pray that I get a refund. I can't afford to lose this money. We were going to see the play in New Orleans next week. You should have seen the look on my 13 year old face when I gave the bad news. I don't know what else to say.....just so disappointed.

Tyler, Even though I'm sorry you have to cancel the remainder of the Madea tour - I understand! You see this is not flesh and blood you're up against! GOD is greater - the battle belongs to Him!! So, trust Him on this one! My effectual, fervent prayers are going up as usual!! Keep your eyes on the prize - you win!!!

I hate that you are canceling the Madea gets a job play. I was going to buy tickets and take my mother to see you as a late birthday present but now that wont happen. I hope you will reconsider and bring the play back at a later date or maybe release to DVD. I love to watch the Madea plays and movies they make me laugh and cry.

Wow..... People have stood in line for this event for hours and u mean to tell me because of bootleggers u r canceling the show? Why not warn people about the problem and continue to do it... Very disappointed :(

I've read this twice and I can't understand whu this was cancelled? If scalpers bought all the tickets it stinks for the fans but the shows would at least be closer to selling out. If there are scammers selling fake meet and greets that too is horrible but what does it have to do with cancelling the show? Ticketmaster charges huge fees but many artists have worked out an all inclusive pricing system that makes a $45 ticket REALLY a $45 ticket. I also don't understand blaming the internet. We've all recieved the Nigerian scam e-mails and the web can be an easy place to get ripped off. However Louis CK was able to work directly with venues and sell out multiple nights in most cities. These tickets went to REAL fans and scalping was practically eliminated. Could the real reason be that the $25 tickets were selling but the $45 and up seats were not? Not even ticket brokers were interested. Maybe the solution here is not to cancel the tour but to better manage expectations. Instead of trying to fill an arena with a 10,000 plus capacity, the show can be brought to a smaller venue such as a large theater, comecy club or a church basement. This way Mr. Perry can connect with his fans in an intimate setting and everyone could get thed opportunity to shake his hand. That is why he tours after all, isn't it?

It's ok Tyler. Things happen and some are out of your control. I beg you to not stop future Madea tours sir. They bring so much life to our community. Praying for you always. Much love to you

I am tremendously saddned by the cancellation of the tour. Madea is my light and laughter on a difficult day. I waited for years for the show to come to my area and was beyond excited when I was able to get front row seats. My husband and I have all ur plays and movies (no boot legs here) and have to say that there is nothing better than Madea live and in effect. I know it is beyond your control and shame on those who need to get it together and get a real job. Needless to say -I am still a heartbroken fan.
