This Is For Frustrated Dreamers

I was driving in to work this morning and I started thinking about all the days I dreaded going to work. I was so sick of it… the job, my boss, the people I worked with, the traffic… I would wake up angry every morning. I didn’t want to deal with the crap of the job, but I was forced to go. I had been homeless, I was broke, living paycheck to hopefully the next paycheck. I couldn’t take a day off for fear I would get fired. I was just frustrated. I thought I hated my life and the job.

It was so aggravating because God had placed all these dreams and hopes in my soul and mind and I had no idea how they were going to come to pass. To have a dream of being something better and living better than the way I was at that moment and to not see a way of getting there felt like death to me. I thought, “Dear God, why would you give me so much hope and not make a way?” But what I learned through prayer was, with no path in front of you and no road map… this is where true faith begins. With faith I realized that I wasn’t frustrated with my life or the job, I was frustrated because I was a person who had dreams for myself, a person who had visions for my life and I wasn’t living it. Have you ever been there, where you felt so strongly that there was more to this life than what you see in front of you?

One of the most difficult things about being a dreamer is the fear that the dream will never happen. I’m here as a living witness to tell you your dreams can come true. You can’t give up. And I am here to let you know that everything can work together for your good. The time that you are spending on that job that you think is a dead end is not. You’re being prepared just like I was. I was a shoeshine boy, I worked as a bill collector, a used car salesman, in housekeeping in a hotel, and they all were preparation for where I am now.

What do these things have to do with where I am now? I’m glad you asked. I am able to use skills that I learned. I shined shoes, so I know how to shine my shoes if I need them to look nice. Selling used cars was a great way to learn how to close a deal. Bill collecting taught me great negotiation skills. Working at that 5-star hotel taught me a lot about travel. Every experience in your life is here to teach you something.

Today, while you’re at work, don’t be frustrated. Look around you and ask God what are you there to learn and how will it be a part of your future dream. Honor that job, do the best you can at it, because God will bless you for honoring something that belongs to another.

I hope this inspires you today. If you need a little more inspiration then watch my first sit-down interview in years with Oprah on Oprah's Next Chapter. It airs this Sunday on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network at 9/8c. I talk a little about not giving up. I know it will move you.

Here’s a prayer for today: “God help me hold on, help me to get to what I dream of, help me to honor where I am today so that I can appreciate where I will be tomorrow. In Jesus' name.”

I have a book that I keep private thoughts sayings and other things in and I wrote the message on the inside cover and entitled it 'Tyler's Prayer' I don't know how you'll take this but I use you as my muse. In my writing and in other areas of my life you're my blueprint. I've noticed though I would always support you (movies plays etc) I don't watch your movies like I used to. It's not that I have lost interest in you but my season with you is about over which is good for me. I feel better about me thanks to you and your stories and someday, Lord willing, I will tell my tales for others to read, see and heal. May the good God continue to bless and keep you in all you do. Angels watch over you. See you in the clouds

Tyler, I have read all of the messages you have sent, but I must say, this has been by far the most inspirational message I have ever received in my life. Somehow you managed to know exactly what I am dealing with and what has been the biggest challenge for me; being a dreamer and acting on what I know to pursue my dreams, but without a plan for how they will come true...I just wanted to thank you for the kind words and motivation. God Bless. Coutiea

Maybe I needed to read this. I feel like i am at my lowest point in life. I never though I will feel so much pain. The person who i loved so much and planned a future with just walked out of my life. This only happen after i helped her financial and supportive while she was in school. When she graduated with school, she told me that I didnt make enough money for her. She wants someone that is making 150,00 or more annually. She laughs at my goals , to my face and or desires that i have for business and success. She tells me that. "it most be misirable to wanna be successful and cannot get it like you". I constantly read books to feed my brain such as Napoleon Hills books (law of success, Think and grow rich). How do i get past this hurt to move on?

Hi Tyler, Thanks for the message, I needed it!! I have been battling with fear, its been trying to attack me recently. I know it is just an attack from the enemy trying to take me back to where I used to be. I have been delivered from fear, In Jesus Name!!:)) I used to live in fear all the time, one because that was all I was taught through my childhood, instead of my parents seeing it and trying to get me involved in something or just get some type of help, they let me continue to live in it. Well, I thank God I have finally been delivered from it. I just keep looking forward, not looking back, and speaking the word over my life when fear tries to arise or attack me. Thanks for the encouragement, I needed this message so much today. I wish I could see you on OWN but I do not have access to the show at the present time. Take Care and have a blessed Day and a wonderful holiday weekend!!

Very stimulating advice, thank you and if I may add another difficulty with being a dreamer. Sharing the dreams that God has placed in YOUR heart within the neighborhood of NoCanDo. Over the many years of being a vivid dreamer, I learned to only tell my God given desires with people that will encourage me. The nay sayers sadly gave up on their own dreams and will attempt to talk you out of yours:(! Walt's dream began with a mouse, just sayin'. In 45 years I have worked at a bank, mortgage company, video store, restaurant, bars, and cleaned houses. I've owned my own candy store (Awesome Lollipop Shop), sold Pampered Chef and I worked for the airlines. I'm working 4 part time jobs now, 2 for minimum wage as a food demonstrator and also at an assisted living. I have moments I must confess, that I do get frustrated but I strive to go into work with a smile on my face. I combined one of my fav songs and with a quote from Joyce Meyer, "Dont Stop Believing", your failures can take you to success. It brings me confidence to know I am not failing, Ive become very diverse from each of these positions. I will carry these lessons with me always. "Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have HOPE! I PROMISE this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles." Zechariah 9:32 God made us a promise, He doesn't lie, He keeps His word! Our part is to hope, dream, have faith and to encourage others.

As always, you continue to inspire me. This is what God has planned for you all along. I ALWAYS can relate to what you are saying & this time is no exception. I now have another daily prayer to add to my day. Thank you!
