Kim Kardashian in the Marriage Counselor

I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL.  Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least hear me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city.  After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same.  I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth.  ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!!  YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!!   And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well.  I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy.  About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God?  What is wrong with that??

I must say i am so disappointed and MANY OTHER FANS are that you could cast her a ROLE MODEL that makes me laugh if you call selling your body and family and personal life for fame and money and being a s*** a good role model that's insane i would never go see another Tyler Perry movie again that honestly digust me. Everything that family represents is only for ratings honestly you should LISTEN to your fans there's a reason people don't like her and her family but i guess FANS opinions mean nothing. I'm sure this movie wont do so good in the box office GOOD LUCK :)

Mad fan i understand you perfectely.I reeally don't like Kim K.But as you are angry and expresing yourself please stop and listen to what Tyler is saying and if you could just getout of your anger, you will realize that you may not agree with him but at least he makes sense. He never say that he tought she was a good role model he simoly said that a lot of the young people are following her.And her fan base is more or less the targetted audience for this movie. She just happen to be the perfect vessel to send this message to people that need it the most.I know we all fell like we made tyler perry and manbe we did but he is who he is not only because of us but because of his choices and his hard work. And throuhgh those we was able toreach us>Can we please give him the benefit of the doubt and say that in this instense he might be right and just let him do his thing. And you people that are judjing KIM K, are you going to honestly say that you guys are perfect? That ther is nothing that uo do and are ashamed of? No you can't because the word says that all have sinned .We all are in the eyes of God equal and we can not reach God's holliness-none of us- but by the sacrifice of christ.A sacrifice, Chist made for me ,you , Tyler and whether you like it or not KimK and so on and so forth. How dare any of us judge her or Tyler for that matter

Mr. Perry, As a middle eastern fan of yours who's seen every movie you've made, I can honestly say I'm disappointed in your selection of casting Kim. I find it absurd you're giving her more exposure and publicity to her "career". Her mother is nothing short of a pimp who encourages her Daughters do sell their bodies. Those girls are nothing short of what Kim is either. It would have made a big diff if she ha an image of someone that actually contributes to society. What's more annoying is that they have the nerve to say they didn't make a dime off the wedding. They made 18 MILLION dollars!!! How could you contribute to these talentless, greedy, money loving fame whores? I think you make great movies, and I have no doubt this one will be great but bc she is castes in this, I refuse to watch this one and any future films you produce or are affiliated with. Her 15 minutes will die out on day and hopefully in the near future. ANYONE can become famous for premeditating a sex tape and getting pissed on. A p*** star is a p*** star. Good luck!

Interracial couples marry every day, people get marriages annulled every day. People were screaming at Whitney Houston to leave Bobby. Is it a crime simply because we're not privelaged to know the details? Kim is a reality tv star who is capitalizing on her brand by acting, same as Brandy, who was a singer first. She also happens to be a human being who got married and decided she didn't want to be anymore. She didn't marry Tyler Perry, and I'm sure that marital status had nothing to do with her eligibility for the role. Calm down people; it's just really not that deep.

Tyler, I have been a fan of yours for a very long time. But putting Kim Kardashian in your movie is very disappointing. To see that you have succumbed to the narcissism and emtiness of the Kardashians is truly appalling. We live in a country that rewards "nothingness", you don't have to do anything but just look pretty and be lauded as a role moodel and celebrity. Kim is a millionairess from her merchandizing but her career is failing. It is obvious that Lamar Odom fell prey. These girls probably barely finished high school, but they have a Ph.D in the art of knowing how to use black men!! You got just enough money to be a fool. The media pushes this family into our faces day and night. Now you have provided a platform for her to bring her cheap and empty values to the black community. WHAT IN THE WORLD HAVE THEY DONE FOR HUMANITY?? DEAR GOD, YOU'VE BEEN SUPREMELY USED!!! I love all cultures and all people but as an educator, you are trading out the black community for cheap, popular culture. I'm hurt that your hard-earned fame has brought you to this!

Without getting too wordy, I would simply say, let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I am tired of hearing about KK but if her associations with spiritual people will make the difference in her life (and if you ate open it usually does sooner or later) then, let the exposure begin. Her change may not come in my or many of your viewer 's lifetime but GOD knows. It is not up to us to persecute her. I am sick of seeing her in the news. That does not mean something good can't come out of this role. I wish her well. As for you Tyler, you know it will be s success because your intentions are not to exploit or be malicious as so much of the media has been to her entire family . Continue to let the Lord use you.. In Him... Ann-ji

Mr. Perry, I don't get on your message board too often one reason is because I am in Iraq and it is not always readily available. But I just wanted to make a comment about the Kim Kardashisian situation. For me and as far as I can tell you have always done a wonderful job in picking the right people for all your plays and movies so I have to say that I trust your judgement on this one as well. I am not as familiar as everyone else is because I try not to let the news be something that I focus on too much. But if you have chosen her I have to believe that you were used by the Lord in making that decision and we all need to be lead by God in all of our decision making. So no matter what everyone is saying and some are saying they will not watch any of your stuff anymore, so be it. No matter what they're saying you do what you know you need to do especially when you have peace in knowing that you're doing it by the Lords guidance. You have not come this far by putting your trust in man but in the Lord. Continue to be blessed and lead by the Holy Spirit and He will make sure they follow. Sophia

I think you are right about this and I see no problem in her being in this film. Yeah, she has had her ups and downs but that doesn't mean people need to go crazy about it. God's love and forgiveness is for whoever asks for it. By her coming out in this film might just make a difference in her life. Who knows maybe God has something planned for her and this is how He is going to start working in her life. Remember for God nothing is impossible.

Hello Tyler, I have tried to read through some(actually many) of the comments here and it seems nobody including ''''CHRISTIANS'''' would be interested in BAILING KIM K OUT OF THAT LIFE-STYLE!!! Most if not all the fans are worried that she might end up pulling more followers to her 'world' as a result of appearing in a Tyler Perry movie. This is nothing but fear!!!! Now, lemme re-echo this fact, Kim Kardashian whom many Madea fans and critics don’t like is a famous struggling young woman that happens to(for some reason) have so many people(most of them young) looking up to her. This is a fact and it is not gonna change. What Tyler Perry is trying to do is sow a seed in KK's life believing that some day this young lady and even her fans will come to the knowledge of 'THE TRUTH THAT SET'S PEOPLE FREE'. Tyler is trying to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ but INDIRECTLY!!! For those us that have surrendered our lives to and believe in Jesus Christ, you will agree with me when I say that ''Kim Kardashian would be a totally different person if she believed in and knew Jesus Christ!!!! What I want us to do here is to reduce the complaints to ZERO and find ways of helping Kim to become a more responsible person(because according to many Tyler Perry fans, KK is one of the most irresponsible celebrities!!!!). Jesus Christ is saying, ‘’…….LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."(Matthew 19:19). Where are those Jesus Christ CHRISTIANS that are ready to pray for KIM KARDASHIAN to turn to CHRIST??? Where are the fans that will search for her cell phone number, call her and share the gospel of JESUS CHRIST with her??? Where is that caring Christian that is ready to invite Kim Kardashian to a local CHURCH??? Where is that TV/radio/music/movie producer that is ready to use their GOD-GIVEN talent to try to woo Kim Kardashian to the ‘good side’??? For I strongly believe that if Kim Kardashian came to Jesus Christ today, even a huge fraction of her fans, friends, freaks and followers would be tempted to try a similar move. The word of God says ‘’….people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.’’(Daniel 11:32). The time for all men, women and children to be SAVED is now. And the time to invite people like Kim Kardashian to your church is NOW!!!

There is nothing wrong with the idea there isn't any thing even wrong with you casting Kim Kardashian in the movie, whats wrong is the direction that the whole thing is taking. I would stand behind you in almost anything just because I love you but when it comes to the welfare of the worlds children then the future of our generations is at stake. Now so far I have Known you to be a God fearing man and I don't believe that you would stoop to the low life antics that have been taking place on the internet with the nude photos and such of Kim under your photo but for you to allow this sends a message not only to your adult viewers but also the children that we've seemed to already raise well with the help of your videos. What should we tell them when so many of them look to you as a father figure and you say that your American role model is who?.... Kim Kardashian?..... Oh yeah Ma I admire her "butt", that's all! This was the true response I received from my eldest daughter, so now I wonder what my seven year old grand daughter thinks of Tyler Perry, Kim Kardashian as well as sometimes any other bad influences that they might produce or contribute to. I trusted you and your judgement and felt that I had to express my disappointment as well as disgust. Sorry for any problems that I may have caused to you or yours by my previous comments but I felt someone needed to protect the children by what ever means necessary!

Dear Tyler, As i read your posting on why you decided to caste kim in your movie, one thing hit me straight away and that was the fact that the only reason i was reading your article or even know about your upcoming movie was because i was gropping around for news on kim. If only she knows the influence she has all over the world that could be put to much greater use and benefit.... Sometimes we really need to s**** in there even when others don't seem to understand where the journey is leading. If you can reach me here in Lagos, Nigeria just imagine how many people you will reach with this movie. Thank you Tyler for keeping it real to US. Afam.
