Kim Kardashian in the Marriage Counselor

I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL.  Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least hear me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city.  After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same.  I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth.  ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!!  YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!!   And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well.  I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy.  About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God?  What is wrong with that??

If Kim can be in your movie, I believe I have enough God given talent to be in one of your movies too. Even if it is just one line.

Tyler, I know you out of all people understand how difficult it can be to follow God's instruction when it seems like your support system does not. I have just recently learned how listening and obeying God's orders and His only will bring about reward, favor and in the end you will come out on Top. Keep her in the movie if this is what God told you to do, after all it is for His Glory not your fan base or even yours for that matter. Your job is to deliver Christ to people including KK. God Bless you, the cast, KK and KH. Dont stop being who you are and the heart you have because many Israelites chose not to Christ but one fact remains, HE IS and you are Team Christ. Take care and as a fan, thank you

Tyler I am a #1 fan of yours. At first I did not like the fact of Kim being in one of your movies because of what your movies bring to your audience. I was wrong and I ask for forgiveness. We are not to judge one another regardless of what reason. Kris love Kim but not enough to let her be in control of him and I am glad that Kris was man enough not to let her control him. We all learn from our mistakes and I hope Kim have not missed out on a man that truly loved her and not her fame. Kris wanted Kim to be able to make decisions without her family and I admire him for that. I hope Kim enjoy her experience of being part of your work. I hope Kim continue to succeed. She is a beautiful girl and I wish her the best. I must say Tyler I thank you for being man enough to stand up to your fans and if we stop loving you for that then we have lost a very very good friend that God is working through. That is what is wrong with us we do not listen to God. I believe God is in this mix with you and Kim. We must trust God and have faith. We need to be still and let God do his work through you and we sit back and enjoy and get our blessing from this also. I saw the Marriage Counselor live when you came to Albany Ga and I loved it. I collect all of your work. I want the soundtrack from A Madea Christmas. God Bless and Take care. I am a #1 fan and I love what you bring to us in your work. I Luvvv Ya, I Luvvv Ya, I Luvvv Yuuuuuuuuuuu Pat

I didn't read that Tyler said she was a role model...what I got from what he said is that many people look up to Miss Kim and because they do it will draw different people to see the film in which she is NOT a main character. I think his train of thought is that if he can make a difference in Miss Kim or anyone of those that follow her he has done his part. What he is doing is exposing people who may have never seen or thought along those lines to an alternative life or choices. I agree with Tyler, bring people in who would be able to help spread your positive message. If he touches one person then he has done his job. Think about all the people who watched "Why did I get Married" just because Janet Jackson was in it.....all he is doing is pulling in a broader spectrum of people to see his message which just about everyone can agree is positive. Love ya Tyler.

HE HAS SAID IT....AND HE HAS SAID IT MORE THAN ONCE! You might want to go back and read the articles he has posted. I have read it in more than one posting made by Tyler Perry HIMSELF!

all i want to say is i am apart of this youth that u think looks up to KimK and speaking from a youths perspective that is F***ing crazy!!! she became big by making a sextape with someone who was already big so i just feel disrespected by the fact that u think the youth these days see someone who became big by showing the world her having sex as a role model. in that case we should just look up to p*** stars and the adults should b proud of that smh.

Hi Tyler, I loved all your films and plays for the stories of moral fortitude they inspire. What people are saying here I don't agree with. Kim kardashian is making a living like everybody else. People please don't put someone down because they found their niche. She has what people want. Should we hate Tyra Banks? She made big money off her looks. She was cast in a movie without any acting experience. Don't be jealous......it's not attractive. Love you Tyler, keep doing what you do.

Wow...... Its been a long time since I visited this site everything is different....all I can say is I just like people to be able to make me believe that they are the character when they act in a movie or play if actors or actresses can bring a scene to life and make it convincing thats all I care about...Take Care and GOD BLESS

Honestly I don't care who Tyler Perry casts in his film. For me as a black actress that is not even the issue. It's the fact that you believe that KK is someone to look up to and you said so in a letter to us your fan base instead of the fact that KK will be a box office draw. That's it. Yo could have just said I think she is good for the box office and let that be the end of it. Kim is entitled to be cast, and you are entitled to your choice for casting your film with whom you see fit. I've sat on both sides of the casting table, so if its her talent and something you saw in her great. Leave it at that. There are plenty of women who have a big following Kim is not the only one. I don't care what she did, who she did it with or why. Just be real with the reason for your choice. I respect that more than the youth look up to her..LOL that is just laughable. And Tyler don't get mad that some of us are mad. It comes with the territory. Do you, Be you and Love you. Just please no more insulting messages. :) Hope the film does what you want it to do. Peace

Cherub, i couldn't have said it better. I was thinking the exact same thing. I respect honestly above all else....just tell us its about the bottom line and making that money. Its a popularity contest and we all know KK is popular and that equates to money. A role model? Please Tyler...stop with that role model nonsense!!!

Very well written. I'm glad you are expanding your audience in getting the faith, love, forgiveness message out. I pray that we African Americans step up our game in being a living example of the principles our Big Mamas taught all of us.

Please make this about Jurnee, Lance and the other professional actors that are in this movie. The more you comment and relate your dislikes for the extra, the more relevant the extra becomes. In mainsteam media the extra is going to get all the credit for making this movie a success and Jurnee will turn into to being the extra instead of the Leading Lady. Please start commenting on how glad you are to see Jurnee turn out to be a moral upstanding young lady. Make Jurnee the actress you would like to see your daughter pattern after. Jurnee went for being a child actor to what appears to be a stable adult. Comment on how you liked Jurnee in the Debators. Just start talking positive about the actors in the movie and stop mentioning the extra. To Jurnee and the rest of the cast members when mainstream media start asking you questions about working with the extra; answer by saying: I truly enjoyed working with all the staff, production crew and the caterers were of the chain. Avoid that question to the hilt. If you all keep making the extra important, Tyler will be going on all the talk shows with the extra and poor Jurnee and the rest of the real actors will be sitting at home eating popcorn and watching TV.
