Kim Kardashian in the Marriage Counselor

I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL. Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least hear me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city. After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same. I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth. ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!! YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!! And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well. I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy. About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God? What is wrong with that??

Tyler, I just watched an old recording that I have from 2006 going into 07 Celebration of Gospel. You said something that blessed me. you mentioned at the age og 16 how you were angry and how you began to ask God why and how you should ask why but not just that but the scriptures you gave Romans 8:28 All things work.... Psalms 37:4. I am grateful for that. God Bless You!

Mr. Perry, Thus far I have enjoyed your plays and movies. Two things: 1. Thank you for "Madea Big Family Reunion". I know u are not aware of it but that movie was also written about my mom. From the characters name (Shirley), to her pastor (Pastor Jackson), and even her battle with cancer. My mother passed January 2011, so it was very difficult for me to watch this movie. The reason I am thanking u is simply giving me a chance to get the extra tears out and understanding God's Glory. And 2nd, You cast Kim K. If that's what u need to do U still have supporters that are here. There is so much wrong doing in this world (even those that are against you decision). God forgives and so should we as his children. Tyler Perry keep your eyes set on whence your help comes and He will guide you. God Bless!

BoycottKim.com - Now Includes Tyler Perry Mr. Perry has attempted to cash in, thinking the talentless Kim Kardashian will help him sell more tickets. Might be a good time to reconsider shooting a few scenes. We are not going anywhere.

I've heard the phase 'Darned if you do; Darned if you don't'. This is possibly one of those situations. It wouldn't matter if you chose Kardarshian or someone else, people will always find something to criticize you about. Personally, I believe putting Kim K. in this movie was a God ideal. The reason why many people do not know Jesus is that they are criticized for their past mistakes. No one knows how to forgive anyone. And it's usually the body of Christ that turns their noses at people like Kim K. instead of trying to be a friend and bring them closer to God. Everyone has fallen short. No one is perfect. Reading comments that others have made breaks my heart because God love his children even when they fall short. I am a young adult and it wouldn't matter if you put in Aunt Jemima or Beyonce. I would still appreciate the lesson that God wants me to learn through your movie. I know who I am in Christ. I pray that Kim's role in this movie will open her eyes. It may not happen in the next month or next year, but somewhere down the road, God has a plan for her. Thank you for all that you do.

This is the first time that I have responded to any letter or email that you have sent. While I know this will not change the decision you have made, I need to have my say. My first question to you is why did you feel the need to send this email if you are so confident in your decision to put Kim Kardashian in this movie? If you have been led by God then there was really no need to explain your choice. I personally don’t have an issue with Kim K. because ultimately she is responsible for her own life and the decisions she makes as I am responsible for mind. Whatever happened in her marriage is between her, her husband and God. My issue is with you attempting to justify your decision by saying young people look up to Kim and that’s why you wanted her in the movie. When people look up to another person, they see them as a role model. Kim isn’t a role model to young people. Please tell me what she has done to be a role model or what she has done to have young people look up to her? If your decision was about gaining a younger audience, there are many young actresses who are role models could draw in a younger audience. You could have asked Jessica Alba, Kristin Stewart from the Twilight series, Kierra Knightly, or Dakota Fanning. As for the last line in your letter, there isn’t anything wrong with Kim K. being invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God?, no, there’s nothing wrong with her being invited into the film. However, there is something wrong with her being invited into the film if it is about the almighty dollar and a bigger movie market for you. My question to you is, “Is this about money and gaining more Caucasians to come to your movies?” Whatever this is about, don’t say that your decision was about getting young people to see the movie. I have been to your movies and there are young people of all races in the theater all the time including my teenager.

The world is made up of different types of people. All children and adults need to see that. People hate Kim because they are envious and are just plain mean. I am an older adult but I think she is a good person that works very hard. If someone came to you to do a reality show, people would hate you just because they would want to be you! Lighten up and have a christian heart! Great job Tyler! Cant wait to see it! Awilda white 60 yr old

I just thank God, for today. Six years ago I had a miscarriage and lost 4 family members so I am thankful for another day. There's many things that I can complain about like having to literally get on my hands and knees looking for change under furniture and in cushions just to buy a gallon of water but Why complain when I am in the best position to praise God (my hands and knees). People are leaving this earth everyday and for another opportunity to be thankful to God is next to nothing. There are more things to worry about other than if someone should be in a movie. Thank God if he blesses us to see that day and I thank him for my change (transition ) that is soon to come. Not Grumbling just Grateful :' )

I applaud you for your choices on this film! How I wish I had seen your ministry 30 yrs ago & maybe had a detour for my bad choices. But God is so good! And Praise Him that He can use anyone He chooses. . . Can't wait to see the film!!

Glad you had made another movie. But I would like you to know something that would make you more money. I read this book "Little Black Girl Lost" by Keith Lee Johnson (no relation to me). This book is so good. I went to the libary to go pick seris. The books are so good that his readers asked for more. I and others on his website told him that Tyler Perry should make a movie of your books. I told the Author (who I don't know and never met) that I will bring this to you attention. He asked me, "how was I going to do that I said, I don't know". He does communicate with his fans. I just told him I will put it out in the Universe and pray about it. I told him have faith he will contact you. Give it 6 months. I am putting it out there just helping 2 people I never met. God bless you.
