Kim Kardashian in the Marriage Counselor

I think many of you know that this is a very difficult time of year for me, so what I try to do is make sure that I’m working during this time. All I wanted to do was shoot a great film and try to keep my mind off the holiday grief that I have been experiencing for the past two years. I could not have imagined I’d be getting all these emails about Kim Kardashian. I HAVE SEEN THEM!! YOU HAVE BEEN HEARD!! …LOL. Now, may I say something? Can a brother get a word in?….LOL. Y’all gave me a new movie title, Tyler Perry’s “Diary of a Mad Black Woman Cause You Hired Kim Kardashian, Don’t Make Me Take Off My Earrings and Boycott Yo A**.”…LOL.  Some of my ladies are upset. Ok, all jokes aside, can I have my say? Will you at least hear me out?

I was in a Mexican restaurant and the cutest little old woman stopped me and said, “I want to talk to you about KAR-DAT- CHA-NEM.” I said, “Ma’am?” She said, “What is wrong with you putting her in the lead role of your movie?” By the time I explained to her that she was not in the lead role and why I thought she should be in “The Marriage Counselor”, she said, “Oh, I see your point and I can’t wait to see the movie.” So, if you don’t mind, I’d like to share with you what I said to her then maybe you’ll see why I wanted her in the film.

This movie is about a young lady named Judith (Jurnee Smolett), who grew up in the countryside of Virginia in a trailer park. She was raised in the church by her mother Sarah (Ella Joyce). Judith married her childhood sweetheart Brice (Lance Gross) and had the perfect life until she graduated college and went to work in the big city.  After college, all she wanted to do was be a marriage counselor, but the only job she could find was working for a matchmaker named Janice (Vanessa Williams). Janice has several employees that work for her, including a woman named Ava (Kim Kardashian). Ava is constantly trying to influence Judith on everything from her shoes to her hair. Judith meets a man at work named Harley (Robbie Jones). Harley challenges everything in her life from her marriage to her husband to her faith. Meanwhile, Brice (Lance Gross), Judith’s husband works at a pharmacy owned by Mrs. Waco (Renee Taylor). Brice has just hired a coworker named Melinda (Brandy), who has some major demons that she is running from. In the end, the choices that both of these young women have made come crashing down on them and their lives will never be the same.  I wish I could tell you more, but I don’t want to ruin it for you.

After I finished writing this movie, I sat back and re-read it. Half way through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth.  ESPECIALLY THE YOUTH!!  YOUNG FOLKS NEED TO SEE THIS!!!   And not just the young people that follow me, but the young people that are following other young people, as well.  I wanted a younger cast, that’s why I put Jurnee in the lead and invited Lance Gross, Robbie Jones and Brandy.  About two months ago, long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. I said to one of my producers, “who else is out there that young people are looking up to?” One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought, what better person! She literally has millions of young people following her. I thought and still do think, that it would be very responsible of her to be a part of this film. To have the young people that look up to her, see her in a film that is about, what happens in life when you make the wrong choices. Whether you’re aware of it or not, to be honest with you I wasn’t, millions of young people adore her and are following her every move. If one of those young people see this film and find the strength to live a better life and not go through what these characters went through in this movie, then we have all done what I feel I’m being led to do here. I hope you understand. I really do!

And lastly, because I believe that my films speak from the inside out, why wouldn’t Kim Kardashian be invited into a film about Faith, Forgiveness and the healing power of God?  What is wrong with that??

I like most of your movies... watched your interview with Oprah... and read / watched many of your interviews. I just read what you said about why you picked KK to be in your movie. Funny... I posted on another blog quite some time ago that I suspected you did it to get her twitter followers into the theatre to see your movie. That is an interesting business decision. I am disappointed in your choice. It is difficult for actresses of color to find parts... It is amazing that this women's claim to fame was a sex tape. Your choice... but I am really disappointed. It may be a wonderful film but I will not support it.

Oh people GET OVER YOURSELVES! we live in America and everything is not a black thing! Just because Tyler is black DOES NOT MEAN HIS WHOLE CAST NEEDS TO BE!! His films need to be diverse! If you want to go back to segregation then create a time machine! it's 2012 get over your ignorance! I thought it was perfect casting! I feel that the next big movie needs to have a popular & loved Black actress play the mother of a popular & loved White actress!!! Movie history, crossover diverse, successful Movies not "Black movies"! FORWARD AND UPWARD PEOPLE! FORWARD AND UPWARD!

It is "MY OPINION".... and "MY $$$".... I will not support this film! Diversity is more than "Black & White!" There are many other actresses that could have been casted in this role. Tyler Perry is the director and is funding the project... and as such can pick whomever he wants! He chose the one with the most Twitter followers. It should be profitable venture. I will not support it! BTW... cross-over diverse??? Good luck with that! Just check movie history to see what you come up with! Go back as far as you like... all the way to the present.

All of YOU people are just as crazy as the next. Just because Kim is a reality star people tend to hold her on this high pedestal, but the reality is she is still human. There are many women that want to get a divorce in three months just like Kim but don't have the money to do so. I think people should look at themselves instead of judging that women who you don't really know. And to all of you who use God as the reason why you don't like her shame on you because God is a forgiving God.

Maybe shooting this movie will teach Kim K some things.. Like they say God works in mysterious ways. And Tyler I agree, I'm young and before the marriage ordeal I adored (not worshipped), but adored Kim K because of her style.. I could care less about how she is living.. and I followed her and still do.. The girl knows fashion!. Im a fan and I only wish the best and success for you, your cast, and this movie! And I also think that people should stop paying so much attention to who's playing who and focus on the characters that Tyler is trying to bring forth.. So I say go see the movie and pay attention to the message Tyler is trying to send forth. Be blessed!

Okay, Tyler, now that many have given you their opinion...you know everybody's got one, here is the deal. Jesus is your source. Jesus is the head of your life. Jesus is the One who has blessed you with the gifts and talents that you have and positioned you to spread His love and message thru your plays and films. The final decision is always yours. It's call Tyler's will. You are the one who will be doing the work and taking whatever heat for casting Kim. What did the Lord tell you to do? Did He tell you to cast Kim? Are you seeking Him for guidance and direction with this? Is He the Director of your movies and plays? Most of us know the answers to these questions. Tyler, the bottom line - this is probably the most uncomfortable place you have been in a long time. This is a place of growth. You are growing from a place of comfort to a place of questions, a place of revelation, a place of maturity in business and in your faith. I say maturity because most people love Madea and Mr. Brown so anything you do with them is an automatic hit. Many people do not like Kim because of all the negative publicity and their show. So now you must to listen to the Voice of the Lord. Remember when Jesus rode in on the donkey they laid palm leaves before Him, had His back, they supported Him, they adored Him, and they cheered for Him. Then shortly thereafter they turned on Him yelling and screaming "Crucify Him!!!" Are you ready to be crucified by your "adoring" fans? Selah. The Word of the Lord - Obedience is better than sacrifice. Tyler, obey the Voice of the Lord and keep it moving...moving towards your Provider - He provided for you and enabled you to bless your mother; your Deliverer - He delivered you from the dungeon of h*** that was your childhood & from yourself; your Healer - He healed your heart so that you could forgive your natural father and yourself because those abused will blame themselves 1st; your Protector - He protected you from what could have been because of your childhood and the devil's plans for you; your Strongtower - even though you have a beautiful house to call home ultimately He is still your Cover, your Tower; and your Lord - He is the only person who can pardon you for your past, present, and future transgressions to allow you into Heaven. Keep your ears open, Tyler, and keep doing what thus saith the Lord. May the Lord bless and keep you.

I've always been a Tyler Perry fan but this is the one movie i won't spend a dime on. I live in Kenya and as much as Kim isn't well known here as compared to other western celebrities the much that goes on around about her isn't positive and its all seen on E! All has been said about her that may be harsh but true (her family as well) the greed, the materialistic xter, immorality.... I don't care whether the movie is all so to educate and help people...and Kim will be the holier-than-thou princess.... fact is thats not who she is and using her fame to boost this movie for "beneficial reasons to watchers" says much on ur part as well. Very many MANY straight up actors and actresses r out there. look harder. my opinion.

He without sin. Listen i am the first to admit that airing you business in public is not the way i would go. But getting upset that Tyler Cast Kim K. in is next picture is just crazy to me. I understand that some might feel that she is a limited actress, but we really know. Why so some many christains sit in judgement. We are far from perfect and he have sinned and will continue to sin. Thats why God gave is son to give us life. They are more important issues that the movie will bring. And right now me need to reach out and touch the young and the old and tell they that God is real. And if that means using Kim K. to make that point well so be it. The disciples of Jesus and to go to wicked places to save souls. Why cant Tyler. Stop judging and Try and save Souls yourselves.

I am appalled by all the backlash and hate that has been spewed from the mouths of people over a woman"Kim k"and " Tyler Perry' writer director of the choice hes making to put a woman and indeed that's what she is,in a movie.why is it Americas or the fans judgment to come down over a woman who lives her life and all its good and bad in the public eye,she OS at the end of the day a human being no matter who she dates, sleeps with it it married..if we were to have a camera on our lives I wonder what would the world really see..hmmm..and would the world look at the positive of what were doing or just the negative..well negative sells media, books blogs,...this woman who is a savvy business woman, hard worker, independent has built a brand, millionaire, came from a good upbringing is being crucified because she is imperfect and flawed like all of us..give me a break..Tyler Perry is the epitome oof humility, and knowing that people are people and we all have the same face, striving for the same goals and when we understand that then at will stop putting our own fears and envy on other people and look within ourselves for understanding of peoples choices should never effect us and our support for the human race....

What is wrong with that is, Can she even act? I mean Kim Kardashian, the only movies I have heard about her doing is not ones you would want your young children to see (maybe not even older ones). That reality show was/is wow, isn't (some) acting supposed to be in involved? I have stuck behind you until this point, but Brandy, and KK? I don't know Mr. Perry, if that is one I am going to be running to see that first opening weekend. Two women with falsified and shambled marriages, neither of them can act. I will give it to Brandy she picked a top notch acting coach, that may help, but I believe true acting is something that comes natural along with coaching. I will have to give my girl Tasha big props if Brandy becomes an actor. Despite popular believe getting behind a camera and saying some words does not make you an actor. The children may believe this one but for the older crowd that knows better, I really don't know, I trust in your judgement, because you wrote it I am sure it will be good but....Wow!!!!

Say no more my brother, say no more. When we see it through your eyes we see it more clearly. I am waiting for the movie to hit the theaters soon. I will be there front and center as well. Much luck to you on your next venture.

If God has laid on your heart Kim K. then Kim K. it is. Obediance is always better than sacrifice. I don't particularly like the choice but who am I to know the big picture and plans that God has for this film. When things are going too good, God will trouble your water. Those people who are there for you and support you will continue to do so regardless. I remember once you said that you prayed the prayer of Jabez. "God enlarge my territory!!!" My prayers are with you and know that whatever God brings you to he will bring you through! Keep him first and he will direct your path!

I believe your approach is very well thought out and I think this movie will speak volumes with the lessons you are bringing to light. I watch the Karadashians and to my understanding I feel she is really looking for love. I feel like she is looking for it, needs it and will not be satisfied until she finds it. But you can’t rush love and you can’t rush GOD. So this movie to me will be great for viewers and it will essentially be great for her (Kim) and the other members of the cast. I know when I watch movies (especially yours) that give off a valuable lesson/s I feel enlightened, but when it is a spiritual lesson I feel beyond enlightened. It’s almost like my breath is taken away and GOD breathes new air into my lungs, so I can’t imagine what the actors in these movies are feeling. You never know when experiences will speak directly to you, but when they do you have to do well with the lesson. I believe this a wonderful idea and I hope the cast enjoys the movie and embraces it with open arms.

Hey Tyler. While I admit that I'm not much of a Kim Kardashian fan, I have faith in you and your work and if you believe that Kim can do your movie justice, then I have faith in her too. You don't make bad movies and if someone who claims to be a fan yet judges you for something like this, it makes them two-faced and petty. And like my great-grandmother said, "God don't like ugly and he ain't too fond of pretty." Let them say what they want because the Bible says, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." And I have yet to hear of a re-edit!!!!! Thank you for the entertainment and enlightenment!!!! 1love, ken-e
