Small Goals Will Get You There!

I just recently started back running after taking a break from it for quite some time. I remember I was up to 5 miles nonstop. I was so proud of myself, but life happened and I got really busy and distracted. Once you stop it’s really hard to get your endurance back up, so I started back running this past week.

Now everyday that I would get out and start running I would look at my distance watch and just say let me just make it one nonstop mile today... every time I would get exhausted. I would look at the watch and get so frustrated that I was that tired and not even halfway there. I’d get so disappointed I would just start to walk. This happened over and over again, then a friend of mine said, “it’s not about speed, its about endurance.” I thought about those scriptures that say, “the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong...it’s to the one who endureth to the end.” So yesterday I started running and decided not to look at the watch, not to watch the time, but to just focus on what was right in front of me, one step at a time. The task at hand was not looking up but just thanking God for where I was at that moment. Before I knew it I had run two miles. I had to thank God for those two miles, it wasn’t five, but it’s a great start for me to get back to the five.

As I celebrated with my hands in the air, it made me think of life in so many ways. It made me think how we set out with these huge goals for ourselves and they seem so hard to reach. They seem so impossible, and when we have small victories we don’t even stop to notice them, we don’t stop and say, “God thank you for where I am right now.” Life and its circumstances distract us, and we get frustrated because we feel that we’re running out of time. You may not be at your goal yet, but what you need to know is that with each step you get closer. Take some time to stop and thank God for where you are, stop focusing so hard on the finish line and enjoy the race.  Each step toward your goal is a victory, you can’t get overwhelmed with how far you have to go... you just need to focus on one step at a time. Keep going.

With that said, I want to thank you for watching The Haves and The Have Nots on Tuesday and Love Thy Neighbor on Wednesday nights. This was my first drama on TV and I was a little overwhelmed when I thought about it, but you, you, YOU! You not only are watching these shows but also taking time to tell me and everyone else how much you love them, thank you so much. The haters can scream so loud sometimes that you miss the voices of the people who love what you do. Don’t worry now, you are screaming louder than them.  I hear you, you love it, and I thank you so much for watching both of the shows.  You have no idea how many lives you have changed by watching them, how many jobs you keep creating just by turning on OWN on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I’m grateful beyond words.

Only 5 more episodes of The Haves and The Have Nots for the next five weeks, and only 6 more episodes of Love Thy Neighbor for the next three weeks.

Thank you for reminding me that every step closer is a victory. Wow, I have been focusing too much on the BIG FINiSH and haven't looked at all the in between accomplishments that it took to get me where I am. So grateful for that reminder...I, too, am a runner and back in my competing days of high school, I used to run even when my entire team stopped training...It wasn't about how fast I ran all of the training miles but the endurance...When those Saturday Cross Country Meets would start, my 2 mile race seemed to have wings because I was floating running them! The practice made my race PERFECT! So, I am going to take that strategy and apply it to my current situation...I am training!!!! When the day of my "race" comes, all the training will have paid off! Bless God! Bless you! Would love to chat with you! @TibbsKim please be blessed! Kim...

I just read the section "Inspirations" and trust me it was very inspirational. I just wanted to say "Thank you very much". Believing in yourself when no one else does and you are constantly being rejected and the bills are piling up can be more than frustrating, it's overwhelming. But what we need are the voices, stories and the encouragement of people like yourself sharing and lifting. My journey is just beginning but I truly feel lifted. Thank you.

Wow, I love this message, very inspiring for me because I wake up every morning and take my daughter to school and then I take a walk with my one year old son....I go to the gym and get on the treadmill and my goal is to run 8 miles for at least 5 minutes non-stop...Sometimes I would look at the time and see I still have two more minutes to go and that will make me lose hope...I said the same thing to myself one day..that it is not about how fast you get there...it's about getting there and reaching that goal...and now to find out that it is in the bible is just amazing.. thank you so much for sharing this. :)))))) I will comply that statement to every thing I do.

Hi Tyler Perry, I just love your creativity and your humor, your positive slant on life and your dedication. Laughter is such good medicine. You use humor in its highest form. You tickle them with humor and in responds they open up their spirit to you. Finally you get them to see something that they haven't seen before and it has purpose for their lives. I see your humor like a parable. Jesus would speak parables all the time. If you wanted to understand the parable you'd go deeper with it, if you didn't you would just drop it. Those that have ears to hear and eyes to see. Keep on doing what your doing and may God continue to bless you with more insights into peoples lives. I am so glad I came across one of your plays, I been laughing ever since. God bless you. Linda
