Small Goals Will Get You There!

I just recently started back running after taking a break from it for quite some time. I remember I was up to 5 miles nonstop. I was so proud of myself, but life happened and I got really busy and distracted. Once you stop it’s really hard to get your endurance back up, so I started back running this past week.

Now everyday that I would get out and start running I would look at my distance watch and just say let me just make it one nonstop mile today... every time I would get exhausted. I would look at the watch and get so frustrated that I was that tired and not even halfway there. I’d get so disappointed I would just start to walk. This happened over and over again, then a friend of mine said, “it’s not about speed, its about endurance.” I thought about those scriptures that say, “the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong...it’s to the one who endureth to the end.” So yesterday I started running and decided not to look at the watch, not to watch the time, but to just focus on what was right in front of me, one step at a time. The task at hand was not looking up but just thanking God for where I was at that moment. Before I knew it I had run two miles. I had to thank God for those two miles, it wasn’t five, but it’s a great start for me to get back to the five.

As I celebrated with my hands in the air, it made me think of life in so many ways. It made me think how we set out with these huge goals for ourselves and they seem so hard to reach. They seem so impossible, and when we have small victories we don’t even stop to notice them, we don’t stop and say, “God thank you for where I am right now.” Life and its circumstances distract us, and we get frustrated because we feel that we’re running out of time. You may not be at your goal yet, but what you need to know is that with each step you get closer. Take some time to stop and thank God for where you are, stop focusing so hard on the finish line and enjoy the race.  Each step toward your goal is a victory, you can’t get overwhelmed with how far you have to go... you just need to focus on one step at a time. Keep going.

With that said, I want to thank you for watching The Haves and The Have Nots on Tuesday and Love Thy Neighbor on Wednesday nights. This was my first drama on TV and I was a little overwhelmed when I thought about it, but you, you, YOU! You not only are watching these shows but also taking time to tell me and everyone else how much you love them, thank you so much. The haters can scream so loud sometimes that you miss the voices of the people who love what you do. Don’t worry now, you are screaming louder than them.  I hear you, you love it, and I thank you so much for watching both of the shows.  You have no idea how many lives you have changed by watching them, how many jobs you keep creating just by turning on OWN on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, I’m grateful beyond words.

Only 5 more episodes of The Haves and The Have Nots for the next five weeks, and only 6 more episodes of Love Thy Neighbor for the next three weeks.

Hi Tyler, I live by the adage that 'Little and often make much'. Often times in life, we look back at what we have lost or what was or look to the side at what others have accomplished and waste precious time we could have used looking ahead. I could write a book on that topic. Steady and steady will overcome most any obstacle in life. Pressure will burst a pipe and pressure will also reveal the diamond. It all depends on the object of your obsession/goal/desire. I walk 3-4 miles every day. Have lost weight in the process. My goal was to move my body daily and the weight loss was the reward. Your are correct, 'Small goals will get you there' due to the principle of compound interest. Make up your mind about what you want and get moving. We don't have to be especially gifted to make a go of life, we have to be especially committed to life and get going!

So what's stopping you Vanessa from writing that book? We all have a story to tell and for all you know your story may be the key to saving someone else! Pick the pen of hope up and start writing on the tablet of faith dear!

Tyler Perry Thank you so much for your great words of wisdom. I am in the wilderness and I don't know where to begin. I have made such a mess of everything and I don't even know how to make things right. I want more and ready to fight for more. In a new place, environment and get oppourtunity. Now its time for me to truly give it to God and let him work on me for his glory. I have to stop saying yes to everyone and learn to say no. Dust myself off and get back in the race. No matter what has happen during my journey, there is still work left for me to finish. If you never read these words or if someone else read this. Please do me a major favor. Pray that I hear HIS voice once again clearly and that HE use me for HIS glory and purpose. Your Friend 4 Life Rachel K Branch Relocated San Antonio, TX

You can do it! Make up your mind where it is you want to take your life and plot the course for that direction. It is hard to go North, South, East and West all at the the same time....impossible! That would take you in circles. If going in circles is your goal then move in that direction, but if not, go in the direction of your dominate dream. No one can stop you but you!

Rachael the wilderness that you are going through is apart of the methodology of God. Take it from someone that has gone through and is still going through her wilderness experiences they will become your greatest treasures! Your wilderness experiences is God preparing you for your destiny and purpose. Do we like it? No! It's HARD going through the dessert places but you know what Rachel you cannot lead where you have never been. Take Moses for example he grew up in the palace of luxury but when it was time for God to prepare him for his purpose to lead the children of Israel out of bondage what did God do? He took him out of the palace and placed him in the wilderness. Had Moses not gone through the wilderness how would he have been able to lead God's people through the wilderness? The most important thing dear is to learn the lessons that God is teaching you in the wilderness. Your purpose always lines up with your passion, what are you most passionate about? I mean real passion that when you do this thing it infuses life in you! For example for me my passion is giving, when I give to the glory of God it's like breathing for me! Seek Him for Your purpose and trust me when you find your purpose you will realize that your wilderness experiences is in line with your purpose and then it makes it sooooo much easier for your to weather the storms!

I know you posted this message days ago but I just got it and it was on time. I also started my own studio and I've been so worried about what I have to do that I keep missing what I've done. All my paperwork is done. I own a movie studio on paper and it started just like all other studios. In three months I get my trademark certificate to be a registered US trademark. That's big time and I have not celebrated that b/c I've been too busy worrying about what's next. About to start preproduction but before I do I will celebrate where I am and how far I've come. From now on I will celebrate every step I take forward not just the big ones and stop worrying about all I have to do and thank God for where he's brought me. Thanks for the message and insight. stay blessed everyone

Congrats Eddie! Way to go! You know what am working on a movie script, hmmm... ;-) At times we are so caught up on the goals we have set we forget about the process that it will take to get to those goals! Everything in life is a process, unfortunately there is no way around that. Start celebrating where you are at and watch God propel you to where He's taking you. I mean bro why worry about tomorrow? Doesn't today have enough worry of its own! Chillax and enjoy the process! :-)

Coach, as always you have hit the nail on the head. I'm glad I am just now reading this. You posted it 2 days ago, but somehow I missed it. I share your sentiment with starting back running after not running for a while. I've neeeeeeeva run 5 miles. but I have run 2-3 miles. However, from Feb-May I could not run. On May 20th, I was only able to run for 15mins ( roughly a little over a mile) It wasn't my norm, but I was happy I was blessed to still be able to run! I was so happy, that I posted a "post-run" photo on Twitter and Facebook to show my family and friends who knew I was sick during law school that I was feeling muuuuuch better and well enough to exercise. .... Thanks so much for sharing your testimony. Sometimes through your stories in your messages, I really think you are a male version of me but without the celebrity status of course. Lol! maybe we were twins separated at birth born 4 years apart. ROTFL!..... stay safe Coach.... Because I Care, T :-)

Man, Mr. Perry ... Out of obedience to God, I came to your site and read your message "Small Goals Will Get You There!" I heard God say go to your site. So I did and now I get to chat with you every Tuesday?! Nice surprise! Disobedience would have made me miss your surprise message. Well, I really do need to be encouraged, mentored even. I haven't commented for some time because I didn't think you could possibly see "my" message. I know, I know Mr. Perry... at times I hear God say "oh ye of little faith". I repent every time, so please forgive me. This message is so on time, so from God. I am currently taking small steps to change my emotional eating patterns from refined carbs/sugars. I am "making" myself eat more leafy greens, and will be starting a regular exercise program soon. Thanks for the encouragement! I feel like I could write to you forever, so much I want to say. Please pray that I remain focused as I pray for you to "endure" back to 5 miles. Wow! I couldn't imagine running that far ever nonstop, since I haven't been working out consistently for a few years because of my life's business or "busy mess". Well, thanks again. You can do it and so can I! God Bless! Love, Your Sis' in Christ Jesus P.S. Later, until Tuesday :-D

Your friend is : correct, it's not the speed, but the endurance, and consistency, so keep your feet moving in the right direction, and you will reach your destination. We can accomplish more by moving our feet than running our mouth. 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have: fought a good fight, I have finished the race. I have kept the faith, henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge will award to me on that day, and not only to me but also to all who have loved his appearing ,, . :So run your race, keep the faith. Your destination is in sight.,?
