We Can Do Better!

A couple of days ago a storm came through here that was crazy. I’ve never seen that much hail and rain.  It reminded me of when I was living in my old house. Every time there was a bad storm I had to go through some major things to get the lights back on in the house. One time there was a storm so bad that lightning hit the house and all the power went out. I looked across the street and my neighbor had power, so I knew the problem was just in my house.

Stay with me, I’m going somewhere here…

I knew I had to get to the circuit breaker to fix what was going on. Now, in my old house, the breaker box was in the attic, and in order to get to it I had to climb a ladder, go up a flight of stairs and then climb over an air conditioning unit, all the while trying to not step through the ceiling joist or I would go straight through the sheet rock. And imagine trying to do all of this in the dark. But I had to do it if I wanted lights on in my house.

I got to the breaker box and started turning the breakers back on. For those of you who are not up on your DIY (do it yourself, LOL), the circuit breakers protect the house from further damage by turning themselves off if they get too much power or pull too much power to them.

As I was thinking about this yesterday I started thinking about us as people, as souls... me, you and any other human on this planet. What is common about us all is that we all, at one time or another, will go through or have been through a storm, and sometimes the storms are so bad that they turn off circuit breakers in our lives. We can look at others who have gone through the same storm and they are fine, like my neighbor across the street. They had power, but I was in the dark. Same storm, but it affected me differently. Many people can have the same experience and get over it but it affects each of us differently. Never let someone tell you to just get over it because they did. It’s not that simple.

When circuit breakers shut down in our lives they usually turn off to protect us from trauma, but just because they turn off doesn’t mean that they are supposed to stay off. A lot of times we leave them off because we don’t want to do all that is necessary to reach the breaker box to turn them back on. So what happens? We begin to live a life that is not as bright and fulfilling as it was originally designed to be. You just stay in the dark because it’s easier to not go through what you need to go through for healing. Trust me, I’ve been there, lived there for a while until I realized that I wanted all the lights on in my soul. I had to get these breakers back on.

Why am I saying this to you? Well I know that God designed all of us to live the fullest life that we can, to live in the light, love and joy. It is my hope and prayer today that you will start to do the work to turn on some of the breakers that may have been turned off in your life by difficult moments. What do I mean by that? If you have a dream and you stopped dreaming because it got too hard, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on. If you decided that you wouldn’t love anyone else because you’ve been hurt, that’s a breaker that’s been turned off. Turn it back on. If you have decided to give up on life because nothing seems to go right, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on. If you have given up on your kids because they won’t do the right thing, that’s a breaker that went off. Turn it back on.

You see what I mean? Go through your life and look at all the people who have hurt you. Look at all the situations that have left you in the dark. Turn those breakers back on. Live in a full house. One of my favorite scriptures says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father, which is in heaven.”  Light up your soul!

Thanks Mr Perry, Life is hard, but, I love the way you break it down and make life so understandable. I too have a lot of circuit breakers that have been turned off to keep from being hurt, but the hurt is only draining me the more I leave the breakers off. Thanks, I'm going to the basement and hit some today, I might not hit them all today, but each one that I do turn on, will make the light a lot brighter than it been. Thanks again and take care.

The lights in my house have also turned off. But unlike you who knew what you have to use to get there, I do not know how to. At this moment, staying strong is taking a whole lot of energy which makes me tired in the end, so its easier to give up. But I know I don't wanna give up, what do I do?

I have a few circuits that are loose. I have to thank you for posting it and phrasing it this way. I'm ready to heal. But I'm still very ashamed. From day one I've been ashamed and I know that I have to do it. I told my mom that I feel as if I'm drowning on the inside where I can't even save myself. And then went to church on Sunday and one of the ladies spoke about God healing a hurt that someone has on the inside that can't no one reach. Yup she was talking about me and I hadn't talked to her. And now I'm having to move and don't know where I'm moving to. But I have to be some where safe. Cause ill be by myself. Again thank you for this post and I'm sorry I took up so much of your time. God Bless.

Although you message is inspiring I'm sorry to say I don't know how or where to begin to turn that breaker on. I lived in a very dark place since I was like 5 and now I am 49 and don feel worthy of life. But I hope most if not all the readers can get to that light. Keep up the inspirational words. Thank you

Thank you Tyler! I know this email went to many folks across this world but I gelt as though you were talking to me personally. I am truly feeling the effects of a storm and my breaker box is no longer working leaving me in the DARK! My faith is gone. I feel as though I have no fight left in me. A co-worker was just ministering to me as I fought back the tears that so desperately wanted to fall. I that the pain I'm feeling will pass, but will I survive it. Pain beyond pain...

Tyler, I love getting all my emails from you; their are so inspire, interest, and funny (I'm always laughing). I know just what you mean about dealing with breakers during storms, etc. I experience the exactly same thing so those are interest memories. Like you say you took your message as a learning lesson in life. Life is way too short for things to go by; got to turn breaker back on and keep moving to the fullest. Tomorrow is not promise to no body. Thank you, Tyler. Please keep doing what GOD has for you. Smile.

Thank you, thank you, thank you....I so needed to read this. I woke this morning and began a list of things that I had given up on: i.e. acting, loving relationship, career, basically myself. I told myself if I give up on me how can I truly have FAITH that GOD can work it out for me. I prayed to GOD this morning and all I could say was THANK YOU LORD for loving me and all that you have given me. To see this message from you just was a confirmation that if I continue to work towards my goals as always he will work it out for me. I'm turning those circuit breakers back on and continue to watch GOD lead my purpose. Thank you and GOD Bless

Mr. Tyler Perry, Good Morning! What an awesome Word from the messenger . This was food to my soul. You must have been in my mind this morning. Last night after getting home from an "extra" job I sometimes work, I received another rejection letter from a job I recently applied for. My spirit literally died. I shook it off and went ahead and prepared for today. You know, I am still in "that" older house. As I was reading, I had to laugh and cry. My younger brother and I often went in the attic as children/teens to change the filter in the air conditioning. We had to take the very same route. But one day while in the attic, I missed a joist and through the ceiling I came. As you shared your story, I thought about mine. I didn't fall all of the way down to the Living Room floor. "Something" caught me just in time. Now that I'm older (much older) and wiser :-), I know for myself that it wasn't a "some THING", but a "some ONE"; and that someone has been catching my falls for a long time now. Thank you for reminding me that God has something much better in store for me if I continue to be faithful. People always say, "oh, that's nothing. You're strong...you can do it...!" But I've come to realize that they see the outside of me that keeps smiling and laughing, and not the pain that has consumed the inside. You are right, they don't know. I am so glad that God doesn't let His POWER cause a "surge". He knows just how much to turn on at a time. He knows me better than I know myself. Starting right now, I am turning all my breakers back on. Where the lights are dim, I'll flip the breaker. When darkness comes, I'll flip the breaker. When friends are few, I'll flip the breaker. When times seem tough, I'll flip the breaker. Tyler Perry, I'm turnig it back on! "This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine" Psalm 46:1 says "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." Thank you for sharing such an awesome word with us. I've never posted comments before, but I had to let you know how you touched my heart and soul today. Praying that God continue to bless and keep you and your family. Love You Brother. Take Care
