Description:

From prolific, writer, director, producer Tyler Perry, The Haves and the Have Nots is a new television drama that follows the complicated dynamic between the rich and powerful Cryer family and the hired help who work in their opulent mansion set in Savannah, Georgia.

From the outside, the Cryers are the enviable face of success and wealth, but behind the veil the family’s dysfunction threatens to destroy their world of privilege. Cryer family patriarch Jim Cryer (John Schneider) is a powerful judge whose double-life, including tawdry affairs with high-priced escorts, puts his family and political ambitions at risk. His wife, Katheryn Cryer (Renée Lawless), is the ultimate matriarch portraying a loving and dutiful wife, but she is willing to do anything to protect her family’s status. Their son Wyatt (Aaron O’Connell) is a troubled angry jock who cares little for his own image and finds himself in and out of rehab. His sister Amanda (Jacyln Betham), a struggling law student, tries harder to live up to her parents’ expectations, but unknowingly has befriended a scurrilous young woman, Candace Young, with the power to ruin the entire family.

Hanna Young (Crystal Fox) is the Cryer’s maid and the matriarch of her family. Despite having no money, she has found other types of wealth through religion and virtue. She prides herself on her dutiful son Benny (Tyler Lepley), the glue who helps keep the family together. Hanna does have one dark secret, however, her estranged daughter Candace (Tika Sumpter)—a manipulative opportunist who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Other characters in the series include the Cryer’s chef Celine (Eva Tamargo), their wealthy friends Veronica (Angela Robinson) and David Harrington (Peter Parros), and son Wyatt’s rehabilitation counselor, Jeffery Harrington (Gavin Houston).

You may wonder at the demographics of your viewers. I am retired, white, and 67 and I am just enthralled with your show. I cannot believe any of the viewers find the acting and content less than stellar. Last night on OWN I viewed hour after hour and even watched some of the shows twice. All the characters are fabulous; acting is wonderful; story lines compelling and rich. Makes the soap operas of old just seem boring and uninspired. Love it!!

Mr. Perry, I've written you on twitter and left messages on OWNER'S and anywhere else I could find to leave you a comment about this show. Mr. Perry, Tyler, I absolutely love this show!!! Now I have read a few of the other comments left and I must say I disagree with the folks who don't like the show. Yeah, Yeah, I know people think there are some sterotypical things and flawed Black characters on the show but the same could be said for the other characters. I guess they missed the fact that there is a vey prominent, wealthy, and successful Black family on the show as well. A family who made their own money. Money that was not passed down bmy a wealthy father. Now I don't like "Veronica" but she made it from the Southside of Chicago, all the way through Law School and her very own Treatment Centers. Sonetimes we as a people can over analyze everything. I truly believe if the roles were reversed some people would still complain. Look at the number of vertually unknown actors and actresses you've put to work. We may have never seen their talents if it had not been for your show. I think they miss the message in the story lines. I get it. "No matter how much money and wealth you have, everyone their own problems and issues. Especially if you do not have GOD as the center of your life." I think the writing is wonderful. The casting on this show is terrific! I've been a fan of Peter Parros since his days as Dr. Ben Harris on "As the World Turns" as well as Crystal Fox since her days as a Police Officer on "In the Heat Of The Night". Who knew that "Bo Duke" could act like that!. I love the depth and the range of acting these charters and your writing has pulled out of these actors. Candace is one of the smarteset women I've ever seen !!! I do have a few suggestions though. David's character is much too weak. There is no way a Judge and a Father would be that weak and allow Veronica to belittle and crush his son that way. Please strengthen him up for the next season. Amanda is waaay too fragile, blind, and naive! Is she good at anyting ? Can we find a suitor for her? One with a dysfunctional family. I think Veronica should suffer a similar fate as the "Young" family with Benny's accident? Maybe her words should send him over the edge? Maybe a suicide attempt? Either way, I will be watching in January !! Thanks for this show Tyler. The OWN Network needed it. P.S Do yiu have any work for an unpaid, furloghed 21 years on the job Federal Corrections Officer ? A sister needs to pay her bills !

I am so tired of the black community presenting something and not being consistent with maintaining it. Oprah could carry The Haves and The Have Nots, if She wanted to. Why would she lure Tyler Perry in like that on a show like this and not support the maintanence of it! I am so upset about this!!

I thought it started last week, I was disappointed! I don't know what station time Warner is on but I don't think we have it in my city. I truly hope so, because I have followed it since it first came on, and would like to continue watching it!
